VANCOUVER, BC (APRIL 6, 2020) – In an awards ceremony presented online on March 21 by Gospel Music Awards Canada (GMA Canada), award-winning violinist and vocalist Rosemary Siemens took home two awards – one for “Children’s Song of the Year” for the song she and Jaylene Johnson wrote for Rosemary’s son Theodore Parker Bennett entitled “You and Me”, and the other for “Instrumental Song of the Year” for Rosemary’s duo SaxAndViolin alongside her husband Juno-nominated saxophonist Eli Bennett for their version of Lauren Daigle’s hit song “You Say”.
In 2018, Rosemary and Eli performed 175 shows in 100 cities while touring separately, all while keeping Rosemary’s pregnancy a secret. On Rosemary’s due date she recorded “You and Me” in her recording studio and when her son Theodore was born on September 13th, 2018, her and her husband announced his birth to the world in a video featuring that song.
With Rosemary and her duo SaxAndViolin originally scheduled to perform at the Gospel Music Awards in Langley, BC, Rosemary, Eli and Theodore instead accepted the awards during the GMA’s online awards ceremony that brought together and honored Christian artists from across Canada.
“It was so special to not only win the Gospel Music Award for “Children’s Song of the Year” for the song I wrote for Theodore, but to accept the award together with him and my husband Eli was just a blessing! Theodore was on my lap while we were giving the acceptance speech and because this was his song, having him be a part of it just meant so much to us,” says Siemens.
